I am very pleased to have been given this book by the Rickmansworth Historical Society and will find it of inestimable value.

This book contains an alphabetical listing of all the wills held at the county record office now called Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies (HALS). It is indexed by place, trades, occupations and subjects making it of great value to social historians, especially in Hertfordshire.

There are a great many entries for the ancient parish of Rickmansworth especially during the prosperous years of the 15th and 16th centuries. In later years it became more fashionable to have one's will proved in the higher court of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Those having property in two or more archdeaconries had always been obliged to do this.

Wills are fascinating documents, they often give you details of previously unknown family members and relationships which can lead you on to further research
